Tendring Scouts Launch Community Fundraising for International Expeditions
Tendring District Scouts are supporting seven young people and two adult volunteers from across the Tendring district to take part in international Scouting expeditions in 2027.
These opportunities, delivered through Essex County Scouts, include the World Scout Jamboree in Poland, a North America expedition to the USA and Canada, and an international service project in Kenya.

What Are the International Scouting Expeditions?
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest global Scouting event, bringing together tens of thousands of young people from over 150 countries to promote peace, friendship and cultural understanding.
The North America expedition combines a traditional Scouts America camp experience with a wilderness adventure phase, including hiking and canoeing in remote environments, building resilience, teamwork and independence.
The Kenya international project focuses on community service and cultural immersion, helping participants develop global awareness and understanding of international development.
Developing Skills for Life
These programmes are not holidays. They involve two years of preparation, including training camps, team-building activities and personal development.
All five young people involved are part of the Explorer Scout Young Leader Programme, volunteering weekly to support younger Scouts. Through these expeditions, they will further develop:
- Confidence and independence
- Leadership and teamwork
- Cultural awareness and global understanding
Lasting Impact Across Tendring
The benefits of these experiences will extend beyond the participants. On their return, they will share their experiences with younger Scouts across the district through talks, activities and mentoring.
For young people in coastal communities such as Clacton, Harwich and Dovercourt, these opportunities help to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and demonstrate what is possible through commitment and community support.
Local Events and Community Support Helping Young People Reach £3,700 Target
To take part in international Scouting expeditions in 2027, each participant must raise £3,700 to cover travel, accommodation, training and programme costs.
Tendring District Scouts have launched a wide-ranging community fundraising programme to support this goal.
Community Events Driving Fundraising Efforts
A series of events is taking place across the district, including:
- Craft fairs
- Tabletop sales
- Quiz and themed evenings
- Seasonal events such as a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea and upcoming Father’s Day BBQ
The Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea was a particularly successful event, bringing together families for an afternoon of refreshments, activities and fundraising.

Building Opportunities for Young People
This fundraising effort is about more than reaching a financial target. It is about creating opportunities for young people to gain life-changing experiences, develop key skills and bring those benefits back to the Tendring community.
