Tendring Scouts Celebrate St George’s Day with Renewal of Promise

Date: 1st Oct 2026 Author: Scout Websites

Scouts from across Tendring District came together on 25th April to celebrate St George’s Day with two fantastic Renewal of Promise events. With such strong attendance, the District hosted both a morning and afternoon session, giving young people from all sections the opportunity to take part in this important Scouting tradition.

The Renewal of Promise is a key moment in the Scouting calendar, where members reflect on their commitment to Scouting values and renew their promise. It was fantastic to see so many young people taking part, proudly reaffirming their commitment as part of a day filled with energy, community spirit, and fun.

Following the ceremonies, young people enjoyed a wide range of activities, including soft archery, soft crossbow shooting, and soft axe throwing, alongside garden games and creative crafts. There were opportunities for woggle making, stone painting, and contributing to the “Promise Tree” by creating their own promise leaves. A BBQ kept everyone fuelled throughout the day, adding to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The event was also an opportunity to recognise the dedication of our volunteers. Congratulations to Lorraine Smith on 15 years’ service, Sam Warne on achieving their Wood Badge and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Polly Denmark on 40 years’ service, Brian Mayo on 50 years’ service, and Rob Medler on an incredible 60 years of service. Their commitment and contribution to Scouting is truly inspiring.

District Lead Volunteer Julie Talbot said, “What a day! A massive thank you to everyone who joined us for our Renewal of Promise events. We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better atmosphere. It was brilliant to see so many of our young people having a blast and showcasing exactly what Scouting is all about. This event wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible team of volunteers – your hard work behind the scenes and on the day was nothing short of amazing.”

A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers who made the day possible and to everyone who attended. Events like this highlight the very best of Scouting in Tendring, bringing our community together to celebrate, reflect, and have fun.
