Tendring Scouts Selected for International Expeditions in 2027
Local Young People and Volunteers Successfully Complete Competitive Selection Process.
Tendring District Scouts are proud to announce that seven young people and two adult volunteers from across the Tendring district have been selected to take part in international Scouting expeditions in 2027.
Selection for these opportunities is highly competitive and involves a structured process delivered through Essex County Scouts. Young people take part in selection events designed to assess teamwork, communication, resilience and problem-solving, while adult volunteers go through an application and interview process to demonstrate their leadership, organisational and safeguarding experience.
Being selected reflects a significant achievement and recognises the commitment these individuals have already shown through their involvement in Scouting.

What Are the International Scouting Expeditions?
The selected participants will take part in a range of international programmes, including the World Scout Jamboree in Poland, a North America expedition to the USA and Canada, and an international service project in Kenya.
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest global Scouting event, bringing together tens of thousands of young people from over 150 countries to promote peace, friendship and cultural understanding.
The North America expedition combines a traditional Scouts America camp experience with a wilderness adventure phase, including hiking and canoeing in remote environments. This develops resilience, teamwork and independence.
The Kenya international project focuses on community service and cultural immersion, helping participants develop global awareness and a deeper understanding of global challenges.
Developing Skills for Life
These programmes are not holidays. They involve two years of preparation, including training camps, team-building activities and ongoing personal development.
All seven young people selected are members of the Explorer Scout Young Leader Programme, volunteering weekly to support younger Scouts. Through these expeditions, they will further develop:
- Confidence and independence
- Leadership and teamwork
- Resilience and adaptability
- Cultural awareness and global understanding
A Proud Moment for Tendring
Their selection is something the whole district can be proud of. It reflects not only their individual effort but also the strength of Scouting across Tendring.
For young people in coastal communities, opportunities like this help to broaden horizons and raise aspirations, showing what is possible through commitment and community support.
Lasting Impact Across the Community
The benefits of these experiences will extend far beyond those travelling. On their return, participants will share their experiences with younger Scouts across the district through talks, activities and mentoring.
By doing so, they will help inspire the next generation and encourage more young people to aim high and stay involved in Scouting.
