We're Scouts and everyone is welcome here. Every week, we help almost half a million people aged 4-25 develop skills for life. Are you ready to join the adventure?
Located in north-east Essex, our district benefits from a unique mix of environments, from open countryside and rural villages to one of the county’s most distinctive coastlines. This setting allows us to offer a wide range of activities, from traditional outdoor skills and camps to water-based adventures and community projects, helping young people develop confidence, resilience, and skills for life.
Tendring District was registered in July 1974 as a merger between Clacton, registered in 1911, Harwich, registered in 1918, and Frinton, registered in 1924.
Our district is powered by more than 200 dedicated adult volunteers who give their time to run weekly meetings, organise events, and support young people on their journey through Scouts.
Tendring is part of the wider Essex Scouts County, and we work closely with local groups and county teams to provide high-quality, safe, and inclusive Scouting for everyone in our community.
While individual Scout Groups deliver programmes locally, the District provides support, coordination, training, and opportunities that bring young people together on a larger scale.
The District is led by District Lead Volunteer Julie Talbot, supported by a team of experienced volunteers who oversee different areas of Scouting. This includes Claire Harper, who leads Volunteer Development, ensuring our volunteers are trained and supported; Ron Talbot, who leads the Support Team; and Lorraine Smith, who leads the Programme Team, helping deliver engaging and exciting activities.
Our youth programme is further supported by Emily Boyden and Michael Harris, who support the 6 to 13s, and Kallum Szabo, who leads the 14 to 24s sections.
Specialist areas are supported by Steve Moore, who leads Activities, while Margaret Medler provides vital administrative support.
We are also committed to creating an inclusive environment for all, supported by Julie-Ann Morgans in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Governance and strategic direction are provided by our District Chair, Andy Harper, alongside the Trustee Board.
Like many Scout districts, Tendring has grown over time alongside its communities, adapting to meet the needs of young people across the area. Today, we continue to build on that legacy by offering inclusive, flexible, and adventurous Scouting that reflects the diverse communities we serve.
